Kathryn Walsh

With over 24 years of experience, Kathryn Walsh brings her knowledge and experience in family law to McIlveen Family Law Firm.  Kathryn started in private practice, opening her own firm within her first year and handling divorce, child custody, alimony, and property division matters.  She defended juveniles in family court charged with crimes and worked in other diverse legal areas such as construction litigation, small business incorporations, and small estate matters.  Most recently, Kathryn has been a trial attorney with the Department of Social Services, prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases and working zealously towards placing children in safe, permanent homes.

Kathryn graduated the University of South Carolina in 1989 with honors from South Carolina College, earning her Bachelor of Arts with a major in history and a cognate in religious studies.  In 1994, she graduated the University of South Carolina School of Law where she had been the business editor for the South Carolina Environmental Law Journal. She is admitted to practice in South Carolina, the United States District Court, and the United States Supreme Court.  Kathryn also is certified as a Family Court Mediator. She used her experience to teach several semesters as an adjunct instructor at Greenville Technical College, teaching in the paralegal, management, and criminal justice departments.

Kathryn has been an active member in Rotary International, serving in various leadership roles and leading the Group Study Exchange to Argentina.  An Upstate native, Kathryn was named one of Greenville’s Best and Brightest under 35, and she has been on the board of directors for Compass of Carolina and the Simpsonville Chamber of Commerce.  Kathryn spends her free time with her three children, and as a family they foster rescue dogs through Lucky Pup Rescue SC. Kathryn puts to use her practice of running after three children by running local 5K and 10K races, and even a few half marathons.  Kathryn is excited to bring McIlveen Family Law Firm to South Carolina.
